About 'Kennicles'

“KENNICLE”: a visual thinker (nl: visuele doordenker). A [creative] pointer to something indescribable. “Not this, not this, but something like this.”

A variation on the existing word ‘kenning‘ [see below]. Coined by yours truly, to describe the creations on this site (images, text) that don’t really want to be described. Feel free to pick your own interpretation.

“KENNING”: a figure of speech; concise compound or figurative phrase replacing a common noun, especially in Old Germanic, Old Norse, and Old English poetry.

Examples of kennings:

Blood = “battle-sweat”
Death = “sleep of the sword”
Sea = “whale-road”
Sun = “heaven-candle”.

Isn’t that fun.

Also, come say hi at Het Huis van Betekenis in Utrecht.
